Hay muchos adjetivos en inglés que terminan en ing o ed y muchas veces mis alumnos se equivocan en su uso. Ambos tienen la misma raíz pero sus significados son my diferentes. Por eso, hoy, quería explicártelo un poco más para que sepas utilizarlos bien ¿te parece? ☺

Adjetivos que acaban en ING:

Normalmente estos adjetivos nos dicen CÓMO es algo o alguien.

e.j. The book is very interesting.                        The news was shocking.

       The job is very boring.                                   Sally is really amusing.

También se puede usar para describir un sustantivo:

e.j     Boiling water                      A good-looking man                      A sliding door.

 

Adjetivos que acaban en ED:

Estos suelen describir los sentimientos y reacciones de alguien. Suele ser más temporal, en el momento  y no para siempre.

e.j.     I’m very bored with my job.                               He’s not interested in his job.

          She was so depressed about the news.            I was amazed to hear that.

Comparaciones:

She was embarassed because the situation was very embarassing.

He was exhausted because that job is exhausting.

Working with kids is really tiring and so I feel tired a lot. 

NB: Normalemente para describir una persona se usa más ED porque suele ser temporal pero tambien se puede usar ING.

e.j. Our teacher is really boring.   –  Nuestro profe nos aburre.

     Our teacher is really bored.     –   Nuestro profe está muy aburrido.

      He is depressing.          –  Él deprime a la gente.

      He is depressed.            –  Él está deprimido.

  5. The economics teacher at school was so boring/bored and we hated the subject.
  6. You look exhausting/exhausted!
