Used to, get used to y be used to son estructuras que se utilizan mucho en inglés y con las que a menudo nos confundimos bastante.

  1. Used to + infinitivo:

  • This t-shirt used to be very white, but not anymore.
  • I used to be fatter when I was in my twenties.
  • She’s passed the English exam, and to think she didn’t use to speak English at all!

  • What did he/ you/ she/ use to do? She used to work as a waitress while studying in Bristol.

  • I usually go for a run three times a week.
  1. Be used to:

Significa “estar acostumbrado/a a”.

  • At first it was horrible to live in Madrid, especially because of its traffic, but now I am used to it.
  • After ten years of marriage I am used to his bad temper.
  • Their children were so noisy, but believe it or not I am totally used to them now. I even like them!
  1. Get used to + gerundio:

  • I know you hate Miami, but don’t worry, you’ll soon get used to its and humidity and to its people.
  • I can’t get used to smoking only four cigarettes a day.
  • She´s been living in England for nearly five years now but she can’t get used to driving on the left.

You can do it!
