¡Hola! Hoy vamos a ver un punto gramatical para los niveles más altos (B2 – C2). Su estudio es importante, tanto para los exámenes de Cambridge (First y Advanced) como para hablar bien en la vida diaria. Es muy común y se oye muy a menudo cuando habla la gente en inglés.
Es otra forma de poner énfasis en alguna parte de la frase. Vimos antes como enfatizar usando “do” y, también, utilizando la inversión de las palabras en una frase.
Observa estos ejemplos:
I love learning grammar
Podemos expresar lo mismo así:
It´s grammar that I love learning o What I love is learning grammar
Las tres frases son correctas, pero si queremos enfatizar una parte específica de la frase o dar más importancia a algo, haremos así
1.It + be + emphasised information + that/who + relative clause
It´s the summer that I love in Spain
It was the sales that I found stressful
También podemos decidir dónde queremos poner el énfasis en la frase:
Bob bought Sally a new vase.
Se puede decir la misma frase así:
It was Bob that bought Sally a new vase
It was a new vase that Bob bought Sally
It was Sally who Bob bought a new vase for
- What + sentence + be + emphasised information
What I love the most is a chilled white wine
What my Mum never buys is red meat
What we often do in autumn is go to the park
2. Si quieres hablar de una acción:
What + subj + do + be + infinitive
He put the cat on the floor
What he did was put the cat on the floor
They painted the house
What they did was paint the house
They roast turkey at Christmas
What they normally do is roast turkey at Christmas
All I want for Christmas is you!
Usamos all en vez de lo único o what:
What I want for Christmas is you = All I want for Christmas is you
All I need is a coffee to wake up
All you should do is keep recycling vocabulary
All we want is to learn phrasal verbs
También podemos usar relative pronouns:
The reason why I´ve come is to ask your opinion
The thing that really impressed me was his voice
The person who does the least is Mary
The day when we met it was pouring with rain
